Here's a major regulatory shift for endurance racing, as Motorsport.com Italia reports that the FIA World Endurance Championship is altering how the LMGT3 team championship is decided. Beginning in 2027, the standings for production-derived teams will be calculated by combining the points scored by both entered cars.
Up to this point, each individual crew was treated as a completely separate entity within the team standings. Fans saw this reflected in sponsor-driven naming differences, such as The Bend Manthey and Manthey DK Engineering, or TF Sport and Racing Team Turkey by TF. Furthermore, certain manufacturers relied on entirely different squads to field their machinery, with Aston Martin previously represented by separate outfits like The Heart of Racing and Racing Spirit of Léman.
Di conseguenza, il FIA Endurance Trophy per le squadre LMGT3 sarà assegnato al concorrente che avrà accumulato il maggior numero complessivo di punti con le sue due vetture nel corso della stagione.
This update brings the production-derived category into direct alignment with the Hypercar class format. It also makes it much clearer which overall team is competing under an existing entrant license.
"In base al regolamento aggiornato, i punti totalizzati da entrambe le vetture iscritte con la stessa licenza del concorrente saranno sommati per determinare la classifica finale del campionato," the official note states. The rulebook change shifts the focus directly onto overall organizational performance rather than isolated entries. Under the current setup, each car in a two-car lineup accumulates points independently, with championship scores distributed separately according to each car's specific race number. Starting in 2027, both machines will directly contribute to a single, unified season campaign.
