The long and winding road of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship arrives at its final destination this weekend with the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. With championships to be decided across the board, the 12-turn, 2.54-mile circuit sets the stage for 10 hours of unpredictable and fierce action.
Racing at Michelin Raceway is particularly renowned for its ferocity in the final hours. Drivers go for broke when they have nothing to lose, while others take a conservative approach to protect leads. The circuit is chock full of blind corners and dramatic elevation changes while largely bereft of artificial lighting. As Tommy Milner puts it, driving in the dark feels like relying on muscle memory over blind elevation changes.
Championship battles dominate the storylines across the four classes. In GTP, Jack Aitken holds a commanding lead in his No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R. Only a cataclysmic weekend could collapse his clinch hopes. Laurin Heinrich sits 147 points back entering the weekend in the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963, needing to win and stay within 150 points leaving Friday qualifying. Meanwhile, the combined lead margin in LMP2, GTD, and GTD PRO is just 57 points.
In LMP2, Alex Quinn enters four points behind Inter Europol Competition's pair of Tom Dillmann and Jeremy Clarke in the No. 43 ORECA. Quinn shares the No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR ORECA LMP2 07 with George Kurtz. Over in GTD, Turner Motorsport's Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher trail Winward Racing's Russell Ward and Philip Ellis by six points in their respective BMW M4 GT3 EVO and Mercedes-AMG GT3 machines. In GTD PRO, Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen are 47 points back of Milner and Nicky Catsburg in the standings.
The event also marks the final round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. Grids expand with additional entries, and points are awarded at Hour 4, Hour 8, and Hour 10. Porsche Penske Motorsport’s No. 7 car has the Team Championship wrapped, while tight battles persist across the endurance standings in LMP2, GTD, and GTD PRO.
Fans can catch all the action starting at noon ET on NBC, with continuing coverage on NBCSN at 3 p.m. ET. Domestic streaming is available on Peacock with NBC’s crew, and international viewers can tune into the IMSA YouTube channel with IMSA Radio commentary.
