Here is the thing about AO Racing: they simply refuse to do a season finale without making a statement. As revealed on social media, the squad is shaking up its visual identity for the upcoming Motul Petit Le Mans to close out the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in style.
Fans will see a major departure from the traditional green Rexy dinosaur on the Porsche and purple Spike the dragon on the prototype. Last year, the team rolled out spooktacular Halloween-inspired machines at this exact event and walked away with the LMP2 championship. Now, that spooky aesthetic is back exclusively for the GTD PRO machine.
The No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) will feature a reprisal and variation of that Halloween-themed livery from a season ago. Piloted by Nick Tandy, Harry King, and Alessio Picariello, the car heads into the weekend sitting sixth in the GTD PRO standings. They sit 154 points behind the championship leader, meaning they remain mathematically eligible to claim the title.
Over in the Le Mans Prototype 2 class, the No. 99 ORECA LMP2 07 is bringing an entirely different beast to American soil. Rockie the Pegasus will make its Stateside racing debut, shifting away from the dragon look. The striking red and white prototype previously appeared at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
That Le Mans appearance followed a massive run of success for PJ Hyett. Alongside his LMP2 title and the Jim Trueman Award earned last year, Hyett shared championship honors with Dane Cameron and Louis Deletraz in the European Le Mans Series LMP2 Pro/Am division.
