Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) put on a masterclass at the front to take victory in the Tissot Sprint at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, leading nearly throughout a chaotic race. Championship leader Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) initially gave chase, holding station in second for the first half of the distance before a brutal loss of rear grip in the closing stages saw him fade dramatically into the clutches of a fierce three-way battle for third.
That late-race decay wasn't even the end of the drama for the podium contenders. Both Martin and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) were slapped with a drop one position penalty for track limits violations on the final lap, completely altering the rostrum.
That post-race shuffle handed a sensational second place to Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR), marking his first ever Sprint podium and making history as the first Brazilian rider to take a Saturday rostrum. Martin managed to hold onto a place on the box in third despite his penalty, while a furious Bastianini was left steaming at the lost silverware, officially classified in fourth.
Chaos had broken out right from the opening moments of the race. Marc Marquez just about grabbed the holeshot as Martin tried to fight around the outside, but the #89 had to cede position. Disaster struck immediately behind at Turn 3 when Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) collided with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Fabio Di Gianannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), sending all three tumbling out of the race. Thankfully, all riders were reported ok, though Alex Marquez picked up a double Long Lap penalty for Sunday's Grand Prix for his involvement.

With the carnage cleared, the race settled into a duel at the front between Marquez and Martin, while Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) tried to fend off Bastianini for third. Marquez kept the hammer down, and Bastianini eventually wrestled past Bezzecchi on Lap 3. Soon, a charging group arrived featuring home hero Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Moreira. Moreira pulled off a stunning 2-for-1 move to jump into fourth, before Ogura also forced his way past Bezzecchi.
By half distance, Marquez held a steady advantage hovering around a second over Martin, with Bastianini running third. But as the laps ticked down, Martin's rear grip vanished, dragging Bastianini and Moreira right onto his tail. While no on-track passes stuck before the finish line, the stewards' post-race track limits review dropped the hammer on Martin and Bastianini.
Behind the turbulent podium fight, Ai Ogura crossed the line fifth ahead of Bezzecchi. Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) fended off Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) to take seventh and eighth, while Fabio Quartararo grabbed the final point in ninth for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team on home turf, just holding off Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP).
