As Motorsport.com reports, the civil war inside the Aspar garage has reached a boiling point upon arrival at Phillip Island. David Alonso has launched a scathing attack on his team-mate Dani Holgado, making it clear that their relationship is completely broken following a string of clashes.
The final straw arrived two weeks ago at the Moto2 race in Indonesia. Holgado made light contact with the rear wheel of Alonso's bike at the very first corner, knocking him off and ending his race instantly. The #80 Kalex suffered enough damage to require repairs on his side of the pit lane, preventing him from rejoining when the red-flagged race resumed. Alonso also left Mandalika with a pulmonary contusion.
Holgado escaped the incident entirely unscathed. The stewards issued no penalty, his bike remained repairable, and he rejoined from his original grid position to finish on the podium in third place behind Izan Guevara and Manu Gonzalez. Speaking to DAZN on Thursday, Alonso did not hold back when asked about the collision.
"The incident with Holgado seemed to me just like the previous ones. But, in the end, life is beautiful and you have to move on. When someone isn’t a good person, there’s nothing you can do," Alonso stated. He added that there is no chemistry and no team environment left in the garage, noting that the crash itself was secondary to deeper issues.
Holgado offered a much more diplomatic response to DAZN regarding his team-mate's explosive remarks. "I’ve already apologised, because I ruined Alonso’s race at the first corner, and that’s something you never want to do," Holgado said, maintaining that they still share a good relationship and that he plans to discuss the matter privately.
Beyond the immediate tension, Alonso also looked ahead to his future, discussing his upcoming move to LCR in MotoGP for 2027 after being overlooked in favour of Diogo Moreira for a direct promotion to Honda's factory squad. He praised Lucio Cecchinello's squad as the ideal place to build a new family and learn the ropes with factory-spec equipment.
Meanwhile, Holgado will also graduate to MotoGP next year, stepping up to race for Gresini alongside 2020 champion Joan Mir.
