Here is the thing, the junior single-seater ladder is shaking things up. Both the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their calendars for the 2027 campaign, and they are sticking right alongside Formula 1. Formula 2 is locked in for 14 rounds, while Formula 3 will pack 10 rounds into the year.
That said, the travel itinerary has some genuinely wild additions. Formula 2 is heading back to Montreal after a first-ever appearance in 2026, while Mexico City crashes onto the schedule for the absolute first time. Istanbul is also rolling into the FIA Formula 2 era for the first time. Formula 3 is getting a piece of the new action too, visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the first time before wrapping up its season at that new venue in Istanbul.
We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.
Now, the flow of the season is a proper globetrotting machine. Both championships kick off in March over in Bahrain and Jeddah, before making tracks for Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the usual madness around Monaco, followed quickly by back-to-back stops at Silverstone and Spielberg.
After the summer break clears out, the roar returns at Monza and then moves straight to Madrid. Formula 2 gets a solo act in Azerbaijan during September before both championships roll into Istanbul, which serves as the final stop for Formula 3. Formula 2 then pushes on to Mexico at the end of October, before closing out the entire campaign with a final two-round charge through Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway, stating, “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Meanwhile, Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, pointed out how the expansion is being handled financially, noting, “We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.” With four continents on the map, 2027 is shaping up to be a demanding test for the next generation of talent.
