Here is the news we have been waiting for: the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their full calendars for the 2027 campaign. Both junior single-seater categories are locked in to support Formula 1 across the season, with F2 taking on a chunky 14 rounds while Formula 3 packs a 10-round schedule.
Let us look at where these machines are heading. F2 is making a return to Montreal following its first appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. Istanbul is also stepping up to host a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Over in Formula 3, the youngsters are heading to Jeddah and Montreal for the first time ever, and the season finale will land at a brand-new venue in Istanbul.
The journey kicks off in March with Bahrain and Jeddah, before the freight moves on to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the tight walls of Monaco into play, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears out of the way, the racing picks back up in Monza before heading straight to Madrid.
From there, the paths diverge slightly. F2 takes on Azerbaijan as the sole supporting championship in September before both series join F1 in Istanbul for the season-ending F3 round. F2 then finishes its year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, shared his thoughts on the 14-round F2 lineup, stating: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He also noted that the championship serves as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, praising the work of the FIA and Bruno Michel's team.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, emphasized the logistical side of this wild expansion, explaining: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.” With four continents on the horizon, 2027 is shaping up to be an intensely demanding test for the next generation of talent.
