Here is the deal: the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their schedules for the 2027 campaign. Both junior categories will keep supporting Formula 1 next year, with F2 slated for 14 rounds and F3 stepping up for 10 rounds alongside the grand circus.
That said, the travel itinerary brings some wild new stamps for the upcoming season. F2 heads back to Montreal following its initial 2026 trip to Canada, while Mexico City enters the calendar for the very first time. Istanbul is also locked in, bringing a race to the venue for the opening time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 takes on Jeddah and Montreal for its own debut visits, wrapping up its season at that brand new venue in Istanbul.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City.
Both championships kick off their engines in March with Bahrain and Jeddah, before making the jump to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings both grids to Monaco, followed straight away by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears up, the action fires back up in Monza before a stop in Madrid. F2 handles Azerbaijan all by itself as the sole supporting championship in September, before both categories link up in Istanbul for the final F3 round of the year. F2 then rounds out its schedule with Mexico at the end of October, followed by Qatar and Abu Dhabi to close the book on the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, pointed out the significance of the path: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He added that the category serves as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, letting young drivers showcase their talent directly in front of the pinnacle of the sport.
On the logistics side, Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, addressed the expansion head-on: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He confirmed that freight costs will be covered to ensure the massive territorial expansion does not hit the teams in the wallet. Spanning four continents, it is shaping up to be a demanding and diverse test for the next generation of talent.
