Genesis Magma Racing is keeping its entire stable of drivers unchanged for its sophomore season in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2027, trusting continuity as the Korean automotive newcomer builds on a promising maiden campaign.
The premium arm of major automotive marque Hyundai stepped onto the FIA WEC Hypercar grid earlier this year under the Genesis Magma Racing banner, making a solid start by bringing both cars home to the chequered flag at Imola.
We’re extremely happy with the performance of our drivers this year – both in the races and as we continue to develop the GMR-001 Hypercar,
That early promise turned into headlines when the #17 entry driven by double world champion André Lotterer, two-time IMSA title-winner ‘Pipo’ Derani, and rising star Mathys Jaubert fought into the points with an eighth-place finish in only the GMR-001’s second outing at Spa-Francorchamps, a result they bettered later in Texas.
Jaubert then shocked the paddock by taking a landmark pole position for the 6 Hours of Barcelona, the penultimate round of the season. His stablemate Mathieu Jaminet put the sister #19 Genesis close behind in third, sharing the car with compatriot Paul-Loup Chatin and home hero Daniel Juncadella.
With Juncadella re-confirmed for 2027 last weekend, the squad locked in its six-strong crew to build on the relationships and experience forged during the development of the GMR-001.
Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul pointed to the rapid progress over the past six months as proof that the original selection was spot on, noting that every driver stepped up to the demands of a fiercely-contested series.
“We’re extremely happy with the performance of our drivers this year – both in the races and as we continue to develop the GMR-001 Hypercar,” Abiteboul said. “Looking to 2027, it was about what we felt was the best choice for us to quickly take the next step we need. Retaining our driver line-up – and the knowledge they have of the GMR-001 Hypercar – is an important part of that.”
Sporting Director Gabriele Tarquini echoed those thoughts, praising the seamless chemistry inside the garage.
“Our drivers have worked together incredibly well this season,” Tarquini stated. “The performances on-track have been strong, but more importantly, the dynamic between them has been great from the first moments. Their work together, and with our technical staff, has been very important in the progress we have made during the season, and by keeping the same drivers for 2027, we can continue that positive trajectory.”
While the six drivers are locked in, the exact crew pairings for the two GMR-001 machines will be finalized ahead of the opening round of the campaign.
