That raw, stubborn racing spirit we all live for? It is alive and well in Pedro Acosta. As Motorsport.com reports, the young star's decision to walk away from KTM for a factory Ducati seat in MotoGP 2027 came down to one pure, uncompromising ambition: wanting to beat Marc Marquez on the exact same machinery.
It is a massive blow for the Austrian manufacturer, considering how deeply they invested in his rise from the early days of motorcycle racing all the way to the premier class. Come 2027, Acosta will step into the factory Ducati team to replace three-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia, slotting in right alongside reigning champion Marquez to form a terrifyingly fast line-up.
KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister admits he tried everything personally to convince his star rider to stay in Mattighofen, but quickly realized no amount of cash would change his mind. Neumeister shared the conversation that left him completely disarmed, quoting Acosta as saying in Spanish that even if KTM handed him a better bike for the upcoming 850cc era and he won on it, he simply had to measure himself against Marquez using the exact same weapon.

Neumeister made it clear there are no hard feelings despite the heartbreak, keeping the door wide open for a future reunion down the line much like Honda's open-door policy with Marquez. For his part, when asked about Acosta's desire to fight him on equal equipment, the nine-time world champion noted that he does not share that specific urge right now given the differences in their current ages and career stages.
For now, the Austrian squad and their prized prodigy will continue pushing together right up until the very last day of their partnership. It is a stunning, old-school motivation in a modern paddock—and honestly, you cannot help but respect the absolute fearlessness of it.
