Thirty-five new oak trees now line the historic Viale Mirabello just outside the Ascari Chicane, courtesy of a joint long-term initiative between the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
That planting arrives ahead of this weekend’s 6 Hours of Monza, which serves as the final round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign from 6 to 8 November. The forest surrounding the track suffered severe damage from fierce storms three years ago, when thousands of trees were uprooted and the landscape and ecosystem of the Parco di Monza were profoundly disrupted. An earnest project has been underway ever since to restore the woodland area, expand its green heritage, and highlight the growing impacts of climate change.
The tree-planting ceremony brought together notable figures including FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien, Automobile Club de l’Ouest President Pierre Fillon, Autodromo Nazionale Monza President Giuseppe Redaelli, Municipality of Monza Parks Councillor Arianna Bettin, and Autodromo Nazionale Monza General Manager Alfredo Scala. Team Peugeot TotalEnergies duo Théo Pourchaire and Nick Cassidy attended alongside Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG ace Lin Hodenius.
Every single one of the 35 new trees finding a home in the Bosco Bello section of the park represents a car currently competing across the series' Hypercar and LMGT3 categories. It is a symbolic figure for a broader reforestation drive, underlining the bond between motorsport innovation, environmental preservation, and the local area surrounding one of the world's most iconic racing circuits.
Autodromo Nazionale Monza President Giuseppe Redaelli explained the mission behind the effort: "The planting of these 35 new oak trees is a tangible expression of our mission, which combines the promotion of motorsport with an ongoing commitment to environmental education and the protection of our local area. It also stands as a testament to our shared responsibility to demonstrate how motorsport can actively contribute to building a more sustainable future."
He added: "Following the severe storms of 2023, our commitment is to continue ensuring a virtuous balance between the sporting and technological development of the Autodromo and the preservation, restoration and expansion of the green spaces and tree heritage of the park and the city of Monza."
FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien emphasized the championship's ongoing goals: "Sustainability is a core consideration in FIA WEC, and at every venue we visit, we strive to work together with the circuit and local organisations to leave a positive and meaningful legacy that will endure far beyond the race weekend. We are delighted to have been able to collaborate so closely with the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on this tree-planting project, and look forward to seeing the regeneration of Monza Park take shape."
Automobile Club de l’Ouest President Pierre Fillon echoed those sentiments, stating: "At the ACO, we put sustainability at the heart of our strategy for the future of the sport, and are constantly seeking new ways to build bridges between motor racing and environmental protection. The backdrop of Monza Park is synonymous with the famous Autodromo, and it has been our privilege to play a small part in this reforestation initiative that I have no doubt will continue to take root over the coming years."
