Omar Tanoni carved out a dedicated career in Turismo Carretera, racing in the category from 2002 until his retirement from it in 2012. The racer from Bombal in the Santa Fe province started his journey with Chevrolet before ultimately closing his time in the series behind the wheel of a Ford.
Out of all those years of competition, Tanoni secured just a single victory in Turismo Carretera. That summit came on May 22, 2005, at the autódromo de Río Cuarto during the fifth round of the calendar, piloting a Chevy prepared by engine builder Jorge Pedersoli and maintained by Alberto Canapino.
Río Cuarto held a special significance for him beyond just that afternoon. It was also the venue where Tanoni claimed his very first podium finish in TC back in 2003, an event where Omar Martínez took the top step of the podium.
"In our case we felt like locals," Tanoni explained regarding the connection to the circuit. Due to the proximity to his home, massive crowds of passionate fans made the trip to support him. "It was always a very petrolhead place and zone. It was a pleasure to have been able to win there with the TC."
That memorable race finished with Omar Tanoni at the front of the pack, followed by Patricio Di Palma in second and Juan Manuel Silva in third. Rafael Verna took fourth, Ariel Pacho finished fifth, and Brian Smith crossed the line in sixth.
Rounding out the top ten of the classification were Julio César Catalán Magni in seventh, Christian Ledesma in eighth, José Ciantini in ninth, and Juan Manuel Iglesias in tenth position.
