Now, this is the kind of commitment you love to see. As Speedcafe reports, van Gisbergen is officially locked in for additional races with JR Motorsports, teaming up once again alongside Trackhouse Racing teammate Ross Chastain. The pair will share the #9 Chevrolet Camaro, though a complete schedule has not been detailed yet, with the outfit only confirming "multiple races each" for the 2027 campaign.
Looking back at his outings with JR Motorsports this year, the machine was simply flying on the road courses. Van Gisbergen made three starts, taking victories at Circuit of the Americas and Sonoma. Those brilliant performances bookended an eighth place finish at Watkins Glen, where the Kiwi's race was unfortunately blighted by a clash in pit lane.
While van Gisbergen has handled the road courses for the team, Chastain has been plying his trade on the ovals. In five starts this season, Chastain has claimed one win at Charlotte, alongside appearances at Darlington, Dover, Indianapolis, and Iowa.
The numbers van Gisbergen puts up with JR Motorsports are honestly staggering, featuring a fifty percent winning strike rate. He took victory in his very first start with the team back in 2025 on the streets of Chicago, before finishing second to teammate Connor Zilisch in an epic showdown at Sonoma. Their next meeting at Watkins Glen saw the two clash, forcing the Kiwi out of the race—which still stands as the New Zealander's worst result with JR Motorsports.
That said, the focus remains very much on the present. Van Gisbergen will continue his current NASCAR Cup Series season with Trackhouse Racing at Talladega on Monday, October 26.
