Here is the thing about building a Formula 1 team from the ground up: it takes patience, relentless work, and a whole lot of belief. Sergio Perez clearly has that belief, because he has just signed a contract extension to remain with the Cadillac Formula 1 Team until at least 2029. The announcement dropped on Wednesday ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, confirming that the Mexican driver will continue his journey with the American outfit.
Since joining the project ahead of the team's F1 debut in 2026, Perez has been right at the heart of their development. "Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," said Perez. He also expressed gratitude to Dan Towriss, Mark Reuss, and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors, along with the team members across the US, the UK, and the fans.
That said, it has been a steep climb. Perez and Cadillac have yet to score a point this season, but the machine has steadily improved over the course of the 2026 campaign as they fight to move further up the grid. Dan Towriss, CEO of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, pointed out that securing this talent and leadership gives them the continuity needed to build on their first year.

Timing makes this weekend extra special. Perez is set to make his 300th F1 start right in front of his home fans in Mexico City. With six Grand Prix wins already notched in a career that has included spells at Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point, and Red Bull, he now commits the next three years entirely to the Cadillac project.
