Look, when a driver needs to unplug from the intensity of the racing world, they find some wild ways to do it. We caught up with AIX Racing driver Emerson Fittipaldi to find out exactly how the Brazilian spends his downtime away from the circuit.
Turns out, staying fast isn't just limited to actual four-wheeled machines. Fittipaldi revealed that he loves flying aeroplane simulators, building a whole setup at his house with really nice stuff to completely switch off and reset his mind for a day or two. That passion comes straight from his dad, who shares the same obsession with fighter jet stuff and even uses the simulator when he is at home. "You're by yourself in your fighter jet. You have to go as fast as you can and execute the mission as precise as possible. It's very similar to racing," Fittipaldi explained.
When he is not in a virtual cockpit, you will likely find him on the water. Fittipaldi loves fishing, though he keeps it strictly to the United States. Ever since moving to Miami, heading out onto the ocean has become a regular habit. He only fishes there to keep it special for Miami, noting that it brings back all his memories every time he returns.
Music is another massive part of his life, though he treats it more like a necessity than a casual hobby. He takes it very seriously, leaning heavily into old 80s music, Motown, and the good stuff from top artists of that decade.
Travel rounds out the routine. Having already traveled a lot in his life, Fittipaldi likes to arrive a couple of days early when visiting new countries for a race—such as his trip to Australia earlier this year—to explore the culture and learn about the places he is competing in.
