Here is the news: Rafael Câmara is officially heading to Formula 1. The Haas F1 Team has locked in the Brazilian driver for a full-time seat ahead of the 2027 season, capping off a remarkable charge through the junior categories.
That promotion comes on the back of a stunning rookie campaign in Formula 2, where he has already collected three victories, five pole positions, and seven podiums, currently leading the Drivers’ Championship with two rounds remaining. The 21-year-old arrives with serious pedigree, too, having claimed the 2024 Formula Regional European title and the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship along the way. He has also been a member of the Ferrari Driver Programme since 2022.
It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.
It is not even his first time in a grand prix machine. Câmara has already sampled Formula 1 machinery with Haas, getting behind the wheel of the VF-25 during a Testing of Previous Cars session back in August at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal. Team boss Ayao Komatsu noted that he handled the car exceptionally well with minimal preparation, pointing to impressive speed in difficult qualifying sessions in Monaco and Montreal.

“I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver,” Câmara said. “It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.”
Haas team owner Gene Haas drew a direct parallel to Ollie Bearman, noting that the association with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy prepares these young drivers to make an immediate impact. With testing miles already under his belt and a championship lead to defend in F2, the stage is set for a massive leap forward.
