Here is the thing about junior single-seater racing: when the calendars drop, you look at where these future stars are going to test themselves next. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked down their slates for the 2027 campaign, continuing to share the stage as Formula 1 support categories.
F2 is set for a massive 14 rounds next year, while F3 will feature at 10 rounds alongside them. Both series kick off their seasons in March with stops in Bahrain and Jeddah, before heading off to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. F2 returns to Montreal after its first appearance there in 2026, while F3 makes its first-ever visit to both Jeddah and Montreal.
From there, the rhythm of the year takes the grids to Monaco in June, followed immediately by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, racing resumes in Monza before heading down to Madrid. F2 then takes on Azerbaijan alone in September as the sole supporting championship.
The real story of 2027, though, is the expansion into fresh territory. Mexico City joins the F2 calendar for the very first time, and Istanbul makes its return to host F2 for the first time in this modern era. F3 will also wrap up its entire season at that brand new Istanbul venue. Meanwhile, F2 rounds out its year by visiting Mexico at the end of October, before finishing up with the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the importance of the pathway, noting that the 14-round F2 schedule brings iconic and challenging venues while keeping the stage shared with the pinnacle of the sport. Bruno Michel, the CEO of FIA Formula 2, emphasized that the addition of Montreal, Istanbul, and Mexico City was handled in a financially sustainable way by covering freight costs so teams are not hit financially by the global expansion across four continents.
It is a demanding, diverse season on paper. Now we just have to wait for the lights to go out.
