Here is the blueprint for the future stars of grand prix racing, and the 2027 calendars for both the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped. Both junior single-seater categories are locked in to support Formula 1 across the year, with F2 taking on a 14-round campaign while Formula 3 is set for 10 rounds alongside the grand prix circus.
Now, the travel plans for the teams and drivers bring some wild additions and fresh tarmac. F2 heads back to Montreal after making its first appearance in Canada in 2026, alongside completely new stops as Mexico City joins the schedule and Istanbul stages a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 expands its horizons by visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the first time, while sending the championship to a brand-new venue in Istanbul for the season finale.
Both championships kick things off in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before heading down to Melbourne in April and then Montreal in May. June brings the classic trip around Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears, the action fires back up in Monza before a stop in Madrid.
The final stretches of the year split the paths slightly. F2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both categories reunite in Istanbul for what serves as the season-ending F3 round. F2 then finishes its own journey with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by Qatar and Abu Dhabi to close out the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
He added: “Formula 2 continues to play a vital role as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, giving the most promising young drivers the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the pinnacle of our sport and showcase their talent to fans, teams and partners around the world.”
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, pointed out the logistics behind the expansion: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
