Here is the thing, the junior single-seater ladder is getting a proper shake-up for the future. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign, and both series will continue to serve as the primary support acts to Formula 1.
F2 is locked in for 14 rounds next year, while Formula 3 will run across 10 rounds alongside the grand circus. Both championships kick off their seasons in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before heading off to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May.
There are some seriously wild additions to look forward to. F2 heads back to Montreal following its debut appearance in 2026, while Mexico City joins the calendar for the very first time. Istanbul is also stepping up to the plate, hosting a race for the first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 will make its first-ever visits to Jeddah and Montreal, before wrapping up its season at the brand new venue in Istanbul.
After the early flyaway rounds, both championships return to action in June around the tight and unforgiving streets of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break passes, the racing resumes in Monza before heading straight to Madrid. F2 then takes center stage as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both categories reunite in Istanbul for the F3 season finale.
For the final stretch, F2 travels to Mexico at the end of October, then closes out the year with trips to Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the last two rounds of the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the junior category: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, added detail on how the expansion is being handled: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
