Here is the thing, the junior single-seater ladder is packing its bags for quite a journey. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially unveiled their respective schedules for the 2027 campaign, and both series will once again support Formula 1 across the year.
F2 is set for a massive 14 rounds, while Formula 3 will feature at 10 rounds. The expansion brings fresh tarmac for both categories. F2 returns to Montreal after racing in Canada for the first time in 2026, and Mexico City joins the calendar for the very first time. Istanbul also returns to the mix, staging a race for the first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 will visit Jeddah and Montreal for the first time, with its season finale taking place at another new venue in Istanbul.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,
Both championships kick things off in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before heading down to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings both series to Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, the action resumes in Monza before heading straight to Madrid.
The schedules diverge slightly in the final stretch. F2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both categories join F1 in Istanbul for what will serve as the season-ending F3 round. F2 then caps off its year by visiting Mexico at the end of October, followed by trips to Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the final two rounds of the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway. “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City,” he said. He further praised the category for giving promising young drivers the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, highlighted the logistics behind the global expansion. “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,” Michel stated. He added that freight costs will be covered so that the territorial expansion does not financially impact the teams, creating a demanding and diverse four-continent season for the next generation of talent.
