Here is the thing, the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially laid out their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign. Both of these junior single-seater series are locked in to continue supporting Formula 1 across the season. Formula 2 is set to feature at 14 rounds, while Formula 3 will line up at 10 rounds alongside them.
Now, the travel plans for these machines are getting an insane and brilliant shake-up. Formula 2 is heading back to Montreal after racing in Canada for the first time in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. On top of that, Istanbul is coming onto the calendar as a fresh venue, staging a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 is taking its first-ever trips to Jeddah and Montreal, before wrapping up its season at another brand-new venue in Istanbul.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City.
Both championships get their campaigns rolling in March out in Bahrain and Jeddah, before making the jump to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. After that, F2 and F3 return to action in June around the legendary streets of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears up, the racing fires back up in Monza before both series head over to Madrid.
The schedules diverge slightly near the end. Formula 2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both categories join F1 in Istanbul for what will serve as the season-ending F3 round. From there, F2 travels to Mexico at the end of October, and finally finishes off the campaign with trips to Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the final two rounds.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, shared his thoughts on the setup: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He also emphasized the importance of the series, noting, “Formula 2 continues to play a vital role as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, giving the most promising young drivers the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the pinnacle of our sport and showcase their talent to fans, teams and partners around the world.”
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, spoke about the logistics behind these sweeping changes: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He added a crucial detail on the economics: “We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
