Here is the thing about junior single-seater racing: when the calendars drop, you look immediately for the new blood. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their schedules for the 2027 campaign, and both series are once again locked in as direct support acts to Formula 1.
F2 is stepping up to a 14-round calendar next year, while Formula 3 will feature at 10 rounds. The expansion brings some wild new tracks and long-awaited returns into the mix. F2 is heading back to Montreal following its initial run in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City makes its very first appearance on the calendar. On top of that, Istanbul is locked in to stage an F2 race for the first time in the modern era of the championship.
Formula 3 is getting in on the travel too, with maiden visits to Jeddah and Montreal on the cards. For F3, the season finale will take place at another brand-new venue in Istanbul.
Both championships kick things off side-by-side in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before making the long haul to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the usual madness around Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, the action fires back up in Monza before heading over to Madrid.
From there, things diverge slightly. F2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both series reconvene in Istanbul for the season-ending F3 round. F2 then closes out its year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds of the campaign in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the importance of the pathway, stating, "The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City."
Meanwhile, FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel highlighted the logistics behind the growth: "I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams."
