Here is the news we have been waiting for regarding the junior single-seater ladder: the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign. Both categories are locked in to support Formula 1 across the season, with Formula 2 set for 14 rounds while Formula 3 will contest 10 rounds next year alongside both.
Now, the calendar itself brings some wild changes for both series. Formula 2 is heading back to Montreal following its debut appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. Istanbul is also locked in as a brand-new venue, hosting a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Over in Formula 3, the machines will make their maiden visits to Jeddah and Montreal, while the season finale takes place at another new venue in Istanbul.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,
Let us look at how the year flows. Both championships kick off their campaigns in March down in Bahrain and Jeddah before jetting off to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings both F2 and F3 racing around Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, the action fires back up in Monza before heading straight to Madrid.
The schedules diverge slightly as the year winds down. Formula 2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September, before both categories reconvene with Formula 1 in Istanbul for what serves as the season-ending F3 round. Formula 2 then takes on Mexico at the end of October before closing out the entire campaign with its final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, shared his thoughts on the 14-round F2 schedule. “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City,” he said. He added that the category serves as the ultimate pathway to Formula 1, praising the dedication of the FIA President, Bruno Michel, and all the promoters, partners, officials, marshals, and volunteers.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, emphasized the financial side of these new additions. “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,” Michel said. He pointed out that freight costs will be covered so the territorial expansion does not hit the teams financially, ensuring a demanding and diverse season across four continents.
