Here is the thing, the junior single-seater ladder is shaking things up for the future. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially dropped their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign, and both categories will continue to support Formula 1.
F2 is set for a massive 14 rounds next year. The championship is heading back to Montreal following its debut appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. On top of that, Istanbul is back on the books to stage a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era.
Formula 3 is not sitting quietly either, as the series is booked to visit Jeddah and Montreal for the first time. The F3 season finale will even take place at a brand new venue in Istanbul.
Looking at how the year pans out, both championships get going in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before making the trip to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the usual challenge of racing around Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg.
Once the summer break wraps up, the action picks right back up at Monza before heading to Madrid. F2 plays the role of the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan in September. Then, both categories link back up with F1 in Istanbul for what serves as the season-ending F3 round.
F2 keeps pushing forward past that point, visiting Mexico at the end of October before closing out the year with trips to Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the final two rounds of the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, shared his thoughts on the 14-round F2 lineup: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, added some crucial context on how they are pulling this expansion off: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
