Here is the big news for the junior single-seater categories: the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their calendars for the 2027 campaign. Both series will continue to serve as the direct support acts to Formula 1, with F2 booked for 14 rounds while Formula 3 takes on 10 rounds next year alongside the premier class.
There are some wild new destinations and exciting returns on the cards. F2 makes a trip back to Montreal after its initial appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City joins the schedule for the absolute first time. On top of that, Istanbul enters the fold to stage a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 is expanding its horizons by visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the first time, with its season finale set to unfold at the brand new venue in Istanbul.
The flow of the season maps out a demanding global journey. Both championships fire up their engines in March in Bahrain and Jeddah, before jetting off to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the iconic test of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back summer rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg.
After the summer break, the action picks right back up at Monza before traveling to Madrid. F2 handles a solo support slot in Azerbaijan in September before both championships converge in Istanbul for what serves as the season-ending F3 round. F2 then closes out its year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds of the campaign in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the vital role of the series, stating: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel highlighted the logistical effort behind the expansion, noting: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
