Here is the thing, the junior single-seater ladder is shaking things up for the future. The FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially locked in their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign, and both series are continuing to run as the primary support acts to Formula 1.
F2 is set for a massive 14 rounds next year, while Formula 3 will feature at 10 rounds. The scheduling brings some wild new destinations and notable returns into the mix. F2 is heading back to Montreal after making its debut appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City joins the calendar for the very first time. On top of that, Istanbul is stepping up to stage an F2 race for the first time in the modern era of the championship.
I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,
Over in Formula 3, the young chargers are getting their own taste of fresh tarmac with visits to Jeddah and Montreal for the first time. Even wilder is the F3 season finale, which will take place at another brand-new venue in Istanbul.
Both championships kick things off in March down in Bahrain and Jeddah, before packing up to head to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. Action resumes in June around the legendary streets of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. Once the summer break clears, the racing fires back up in Monza before a stop in Madrid.
The final stretch gets properly intense. F2 stands alone as the sole supporting championship in Azerbaijan during September, before both categories link back up with F1 in Istanbul, which marks the end of the road for the F3 season. F2 then finishes out its year with a trip to Mexico at the end of October, followed by the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Meanwhile, FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel highlighted the logistics behind the geographic expansion. “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City,” Michel said. “We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
