Here is the blueprint for the future stars of motorsport, and the schedules for both the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship are officially locked in for the 2027 campaign. Both junior single-seater categories will continue their traditional role supporting Formula 1 across the year, with Formula 2 set for a 14-round calendar while Formula 3 packs a 10-round schedule.
There is some serious geography being added to the mix. Formula 2 heads back to Montreal following its initial run in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City makes its debut appearance on the calendar. Istanbul also enters the fold to host a race for the very first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 is expanding its horizons by visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the very first time, before wrapping up its season at the brand-new venue in Istanbul.
Action kicks off in March with campaigns starting in Bahrain and Jeddah, before the circus moves on to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the iconic test of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, both paddocks fire back up at Monza and then travel to Madrid.
The schedules diverge slightly in the autumn. Formula 2 heads to Azerbaijan as the sole supporting championship in September, before both categories reunite in Istanbul for the season-ending F3 round. Formula 2 then takes on Mexico at the end of October, closing out the year with a final double-header in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway, stating: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.” He added that the series serves as the ultimate proving ground for young talent.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, highlighted the logistics behind the expansion: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
