Here is the news we have been waiting for regarding the future of the junior single-seater ranks: the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship have officially unveiled their respective calendars for the 2027 campaign. Both feeder series will continue to run alongside Formula 1 next year, with Formula 2 set for a 14-round calendar, while Formula 3 will contest 10 rounds.
There are some wild additions and returns for the upcoming seasons. Formula 2 heads back to Montreal following its initial appearance in Canada in 2026, while Mexico City makes its first-ever appearance on the schedule. On top of that, Istanbul enters the fold, hosting a race for the first time in the FIA Formula 2 era. Meanwhile, Formula 3 is expanding its own horizons by visiting Jeddah and Montreal for the very first time, before wrapping up its season with a finale at the new Istanbul venue.
Let us look at how the year shapes up from the lights out. Both championships get underway in March with rounds in Bahrain and Jeddah, before making the trip down to Melbourne in April and Montreal in May. June brings the usual madness of Monaco, followed immediately by back-to-back weekends at Silverstone and Spielberg.
After the summer break, the action fires back up at Monza before moving on to Madrid. Formula 2 stands alone as the sole supporting category in Azerbaijan during September, before both championships converge in Istanbul, which marks the end of the road for the Formula 3 season. Formula 2 then travels to Mexico at the end of October, setting up a final desert dash through Qatar and Abu Dhabi to close out the campaign.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, emphasized the importance of the pathway: “The 2027 FIA Formula 2 calendar will deliver another exciting season of racing across 14 rounds at some of the most iconic and challenging venues in world motorsport, including the addition of Istanbul and Mexico City.”
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, highlighted the logistics behind the global expansion: “I’m very excited to add three new venues in a financially sustainable way, with the return of Montreal following its surprise addition in 2026 and the first appearance of Istanbul and Mexico City. We will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”
