Saturday, May 4, 2019 marked the last time Turismo Carretera held a qualifying session at the autodrome in Rosario. When the dust settled on that day, it was none other than Matías Rossi who claimed the pole position. Piloting a Ford Falcon, the driver from Del Viso stopped the clock with a time of 1,36,792.
Behind Rossi, the top six of the classification sheet rounded out with Valentín Aguirre in second, Gabriel Ponce de León in third, Jonatan Castellano in fourth, Alan Ruggiero in fifth, and Christian Ledesma in sixth.
Now, as the series looks ahead, a group of drivers will face a brand new challenge. Seven competitors are set to qualify with a Turismo Carretera machine at the Rosario circuit for the very first time. That list features Facundo Chapur, Julián Santero, Otto Fritzler, Ignacio Fain, Marco Dianda, Hernán Palazzo, and Marcos Landa.
Looking back at how the current field fared previously, nine drivers who are part of today's Copa de Oro also took part in that 2019 session at the Autódromo Juan Manuel Fangio. Matías Rossi led them all in first, followed by Jonatan Castellano in fourth, Christian Ledesma in sixth, José Manuel Urcera in ninth, Mariano Werner in 17th, Josito Di Palma in 21st, Juan Pablo Gianini in 22nd, and Mauricio Lambiris in 25th.
