Here is some brilliant news for motorcycle racing fans: the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is heading back to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in 2027. Located in Cheste near Valencia, the venue will host the third round of the season in early April. This marks the championship's first trip back to the circuit since 2010, ending a long absence for a track that previously hosted 11 consecutive WorldSBK rounds between 2000 and 2010 across 22 races.
That historic run saw some absolute legends of the sport take victories, including Corser, Haga, Bayliss, Hodgson, and Toseland. The venue itself is genuinely unique, built like a giant motorsport stadium with an amphitheatre layout where the main grandstands offer a full view of the track and keep fans right on top of the action. When the championship rolls back in for 2027, all classes will be in action.
In 2027, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit will host the two most important motorcycle racing world championships: MotoGP and WorldSBK,
This Valencian Round will stand as one of two events hosted on Spanish soil for the 2027 season alongside the Aragon Round, stepping in while Jerez undergoes renovation works. Looking back at the 11 previous visits reveals why this return is so special. The last event here in 2010 delivered a thriller where Noriyuki Haga beat Carlos Checa by just 0.025s in an aggregate race, with Max Biaggi finishing a mere 0.299s away from Haga. Back in 2007, Ruben Xaus took a famous home win in Race 1, while Race 2 saw James Toseland, Biaggi, and Haga separated by just 0.375s after 23 laps. The 2006 meetings were defined by the two Troys—Bayliss and Corser—finishing 1-2 in both races, featuring a brilliant moment in Race 2 where Corser led until lap 21 of 23 before Bayliss fought through to secure the double. Even earlier, in 2003, Neil Hodgson opened the season here with a dominant double on his way to the championship charge.
Jose Diez, Second Vice President of the Valencian Government and Regional Minister for the Presidency, shared his thoughts on the announcement. "In 2027, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit will host the two most important motorcycle racing world championships: MotoGP and WorldSBK," he said. "This development reinforces the Generalitat's commitment to sport, strengthens the region's international profile, and highlights the significant economic impact generated by major events such as these."
Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, added: "Valencia holds an important place in WorldSBK's history, and we are delighted to bring the Championship back to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Having all our classes together in Valencia will give fans a full and varied weekend of racing. We look forward to working with the circuit to make this return a memorable occasion for the fans who followed us here in the past and those joining us for the first time."
