Here is the beauty of it: a Turn 1 crash is not enough to stop David Alonso. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider blasted his way to a second pole position of the season with a stunning new Brno Moto2 lap record of 1:57.718. That machine was simply flying, leaving him 0.205s faster than anyone else as the Colombian now sets his sights firmly on a first win of the year from the front of the grid.
Right behind him on the front row sits none other than Filip Salač. The OnlyFans American Racing Team star bagged a second consecutive front row of the year right in front of his home fans, putting on a brilliant show. Sharing that front row is Alonso's teammate Daniel Holgado, who also shrugged off a crash in Q2 just like the #80 machine, meaning the #96 held strong positionally to take third.
Looking further down the order, the grid packs a serious punch. World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez of Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP threw down a late lap to leapfrog his teammate Senna Agius into P4, leaving the Aussie to settle for P5. Right alongside them on the outside of the second row is Ivan Ortola for QJMOTOR - Exocom – MSI, who managed to slot in a late personal best time. That late effort was crucial, especially since Ortola is facing a Long Lap penalty in tomorrow's race.
Meanwhile, the riders sitting second and third in the championship have some work to do. Izan Guevara, representing the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 squad, and Celestino Vietti of the HDR SpeedRS Team will line up in P7 and P8 respectively as they hunt down points against Gonzalez in Brno.
