Mariano Werner opened the definition of the Copa de Oro in the best possible way by taking victory and the championship lead in San Luis. That strong start gave his team immense momentum arriving in San Nicolás, but the second round brought empty hands instead of glory. Reflecting on the opening two chapters, Werner pointed out the exact turning point of his season.
"We had a good start in San Luis, where we won, but unfortunately we had the setback we shouldn't have had in the San Nicolás race with the breakage of the differential; I am optimistic and I think we will recover," Werner said. "Circuits will come where the set-up of the car will be key and we must be attentive to that."
Santero is doing very well, he made the podium, and the inconvenience in San Nicolás ended up working out well for him because he scored points but didn't load kilos,
For the driver from Paraná, finishing every single remaining final is now the absolute priority to maintain firm chances until the very last race. Keeping competitive across the final three dates means zero room for mistakes. "From now on we have to think about being competitive in the three remaining dates. We have no margin for error at all. At this stage we should never have it, but we had it," he explained.
Discussing how his Ford machine feels for the road ahead, Werner noted the positive sensations despite the mechanical failure. "The car was working well in the last one and left me with good sensations. In the final I was in a good pack, waiting to attack, but it broke," he said.
Looking at the broader championship picture, Werner sees clear threats emerging from rivals. "Santero is doing very well, he made the podium, and the inconvenience in San Nicolás ended up working out well for him because he scored points but didn't load kilos," he stated. "Torino has also caught on, Otto Fritzler is solid, and we have to work to be at that level."
Next weekend, the TC category will contest the third round of the Copa at the autódromo de Rosario, where qualifying will dictate everything. "It is a race that will depend a lot on qualifying and we have to bet everything on it," Werner concluded.
