Here's the thing: according to Rodolfo Di Meglio, one of the most experienced preparers in the Turismo Carretera paddock, this year's championship battle is heading for an exceptionally tight finish. Unlike past campaigns, he simply doesn't see a single driver stepping up to claim the status of clear-cut favourite.
"It's hard to choose one. Before the start of the Copa de Oro we said they were going to appear and it wasn't like that," Di Meglio stated. Right now, multiple manufacturers are performing well. While he doesn't view Chevrolet as entirely solid, he noted that they still possess Agustín Canapino, who is quietly lurking near the top.
Qualifying remains critical in the category, though the upcoming action presents distinct tactical challenges. Looking ahead to the final date at the Mouras de La Plata circuit, Di Meglio remains confident that a good competition is entirely possible. "Classifications are always key, but at Mouras it was shown that overtaking is possible and it is a track that can lead to making mistakes. That can show us an interesting race," he explained.
Then there is the matter of Río Cuarto. For Di Meglio, that specific venue could very well hold the absolute key to the entire championship outcome. Whoever manages to master that track quickly enough could easily position themselves favourably for the finale.
The road to the crown has already featured two fiercely contested Copa de Oro finals at San Luis and San Nicolás. With the upcoming Sunday event in Rosario, exactly three rounds remain until the final conclusion of the tournament.
