Here is a piece of Silly Season stability for you. Haas Factory Team made it official on Friday, confirming that Cole Custer will extend his run with the organization into a third consecutive season for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series campaign.
This announcement lands right as the Cup Series garage gears up for the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Custer’s association with team owner Gene Haas runs deep, stretching back to the Stewart-Haas Racing era and carrying through the rebrand that created the current single-car Haas Factory Team operation ahead of the 2025 season.
"We are excited to have Cole Custer back in the 41 Haas Factory Team Chevrolet for 2027," Gene Haas stated. "Cole is a championship-caliber driver who brings the consistency we need on a weekly basis and we are proud to continue to support him in the NASCAR Cup Series."
Right now, the 28-year-old sits 32nd in the championship standings with five races remaining in the 2026 season—mirroring his 32nd-place finish from last year. His campaign features a single top-10 result, coming via a 10th-place finish at the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway in August.
Looking back at his broader resume, Custer boasts 15 victories in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, including the 2023 championship under the Stewart-Haas banner alongside three runner-up finishes. In the Cup Series, his career highlight remains a stunning victory at Kentucky Speedway in 2020, where he snatched the win on the final lap via a wild four-wide move on his way to claiming Rookie of the Year honors.
Behind the scenes, Haas Factory Team transitioned from Ford to Chevrolet machinery for this season. Beyond their single Cup entry, the organization also runs a two-car program in the O’Reilly Series featuring Sam Mayer and points leader Sheldon Creed as teammates.
