Stop everything, because a proper talent is finally getting his crack at the big time. As Motorsport.com Italia reports, Gabriele Minì is set to make his official Formula 1 weekend debut with Alpine during the first practice session at the Mexico Grand Prix, stepping into the A526.
It is a massive moment for the young Sicilian, who moves up to the main stage as part of the championship's mandatory rookie driver requirements. Every team must hand over a car to an eligible young driver for at least four practice sessions across a campaign, and while Alpine previously gave outings to Paul Aron in Hungary and Monza, the current Formula 2 break now clears the path for Minì.

His credentials speak for themselves. After joining the Alpine Academy in 2023 during his rookie Formula 3 season, he fought tooth and nail for the crown in 2024 against Leonardo Fornaroli. He then made an immediate impact with a podium on his debut at Baku at the tail end of 2024, before pushing hard through his Formula 2 campaigns where he currently sits fourth in the standings with two wins and seven additional podiums, mixing it up at the sharp end alongside Camara, Tsolov, and Dunne.
Minì is hardly walking in blind, having already put in hard yards through previous TPC tests at circuits like Silverstone and Paul Ricard using older-generation machinery, not to mention prior experience sampling Nissan's Formula E Gen3 machine. But jumping straight into the current A526 during an official grand prix weekend is an entirely different beast compared to those older cars and his regular simulator shifts.
