Here is a stunning opportunity for Gabriele Minì, who is set to drive for Alpine in Free Practice 1 at the Mexico City Grand Prix this weekend. The Alpine Formula 1 Team have officially confirmed that the Italian youngster will take over the cockpit for the opening practice session.
Minì, who has been part of the Alpine Academy since 2023, is finally getting his first run out on an F1 race weekend. He will be jumping into the A526 for Free Practice 1. It is a massive moment for a driver currently enjoying a strong campaign in Formula 2, where he sits fourth in the standings with just two rounds remaining. His stellar season features two victories and an additional seven podiums.
Thank you to Flavio, Steve and everyone at the team for their trust and for the opportunity,
The talented Italian has already spent time behind the wheel this year through the Testing of Previous Cars Programme with Alpine, but stepping into an official Grand Prix weekend is an entirely different beast. Naturally, the driver is thrilled about the upcoming milestone.
“I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the A526 and taking part in my first ever Free Practice 1 in Formula One,” said Minì. “Having been part of the Alpine Academy for several years and progressing through the junior ranks, competing in an official Formula One session is going to be a really special moment for me.”

Preparation has been intense for the young charger. He has spent plenty of time back at base in Enstone, putting in hours on the simulator and working alongside the engineers. He also made sure to express his gratitude to the leadership.
“Thank you to Flavio, Steve and everyone at the team for their trust and for the opportunity,” Minì added. “My goal is to do the best possible job on track and help provide valuable data and feedback to the team to hopefully set-up a successful weekend, where both Pierre and Franco aim to score points by the end of it.”
With two rounds left in his F2 season and a crucial FP1 outing now locked in, Minì has a golden chance to prove his mettle on the grandest stage of all.
