It took an astonishing 1,393 days for more than one Toro to muscle their way back into the top three of a Turismo Carretera race. The machine from the iconic brand returned to the front in brilliant fashion, courtesy of a win by Ignacio Faín and a runner-up finish by Facundo Chapur at San Nicolás. That second-place result also propels Chapur to the top of the Copa de Oro standings.
To find the last time multiple Torino cars cracked the top three, you have to wind the clock back to December 11, 2022, in San Juan. On that day, victory went to Leonel Pernía with Esteban Gini crossing the line in second. Back then, the brand utterly swamped the front of the field as Marcos Landa completed the podium and José Manuel Urcera—who would claim the championship that very year—slotted into fourth place.
If we are strictly hunting for the last pure 1-2 punch by the manufacturer, the history books take us all the way back to October 28, 2018. That afternoon in Olavarría, Alan Ruggiero driving for Sprint Racing secured the win while Facundo Ardusso took second for the Renault Torino Team.
What makes this recent result so special is that it marks the absolute first time a 1-2 has been achieved by the new generation Torino models. Out on the track, the brand carries serious momentum into the playoff battle with Facundo Chapur leading the Copa de Oro standings and Ignacio Faín sitting in 6th place as the only brand representatives holding down spots inside the playoff.
