Now, that is how a championship table gets completely turned upside down. Following the Gran Premio Corven de San Nicolás—the twelfth round of the season and the second stage of the Copa de Oro Río Uruguay Seguros—the top of the standings has a brand new leader. Facundo Chapur delivered a brilliant second-place finish, and that result was enough to put the Córdoba driver right at the front of the tournament.
It was a brutal turnaround for the former leader, Mariano Werner. Running in seventh position, disaster struck when he suffered an unfortunate retirement that plummeted him all the way down to sixth in the standings and seriously complicated his title aspirations.
Down the order, Ignacio Faín capitalized on a brilliant victory to climb straight into seventh position in the standings, pulling level with Werner on 59 points.
Meanwhile, the battle for the last-minute entries is heating up nicely. Julián Santero, Luis José Di Palma, and Marco Dianda all put together strong points hauls. Santero is the absolute standout of that group, currently sitting as the second-best classified driver in the Copa, trailing only Chapur by a razor-thin margin of 1.5 points.
With the San Nicolás weekend in the books, the championship enters its decisive phase. There are now just three dates remaining on the calendar: Rosario, Río Cuarto, and La Plata.
