Here is something vital beyond the racing circuits: the intersection of raw motorsport safety and everyday street survival. ACTC Education brought its road safety workshop this morning to the Universidad Tecnologica National in the city of San Nicolas, utilizing the institution's Salon Azul for the event.
The proceedings welcomed notable figures from both sides. Representing the Asociacion Corredores Turismo Carretera were General Secretary Facundo Gil Bicella and Pro-Treasurer Luis Miraldi. On behalf of the UTN, Dean Tomas Avetta, Secretary Gabriel Lescano, and Secretary of University Extension and Culture Cintia Pasti were in attendance.
The educational sessions kicked off with accidentology specialist and teacher Diego Garay. He delivered a statistical breakdown covering daily accidents across the Argentine Republic, the average age of those involved in public road incidents, and the annual fatality figures in the country. Responsibilities while walking or driving, alongside proper protocols for handling a crash, were heavily emphasized.
Next came former driver and current sport commissioner Claudio Alonso, alongside 2014 Turismo Carretera champion Matias Rossi. The pair detailed the similarities and differences between Turismo Carretera regulations and the everyday traffic laws we must respect on Argentine streets. Rossi also broke down the functions of mandatory safety gear and how to correctly put it on, while explaining the precautions taken inside a Turismo Carretera machine and how the structure reacts during an accident.
Following the talks, students split into groups to move through various interactive islands, turning theory into practice. These stations featured cognitive training elements, bicycles, scooters, distortion glasses, and simulators where participants had to obey the exact traffic laws learned during the seminar.
With these sessions wrapped up, ACTC Education completed its scheduled training program for the day in San Nicolas. To cap it all off, a group of students will tour the fundamental areas of the local racetrack later this afternoon to see what it takes to host a Turismo Carretera race.
