Turismo Carretera is heading to Autódromo San Nicolás for the Gran Premio Corven, marking the twelfth round of the calendar and the second leg of the Copa de Oro Río Uruguay Seguros taking place this October 3 and 4. This venue has been a championship regular since 2018, particularly carving out its reputation in the dying moments of the Copa de Oro battles. Over 11 races run here, we have seen 8 different winners, with Ford leading the manufacturer stats with four victories, followed by Dodge with 3, while Chevrolet and Torino sit on two apiece.
The track's debut in 2018 delivered instant drama during the championship finale. Alan Ruggiero took the win in his Torino, but all eyes were locked on Agustín Canapino, who put on an epic charge from last place on rain tires to finish second and claim his third top-tier title. By 2019, Canapino was back under the spotlight for the track's thirteenth-round slot, navigating past Gastón Mazzacane and Facundo Ardusso to score a Chevrolet victory that paved the way for his fourth TC crown.
A wild double-header followed in 2020 spread across two days, resulting in a clean sweep for Dodge. The first encounter was brewing into a heavyweight fight between Mariano Werner and Nicolás Trosset until lap 9, when a 5-cylinder engine failure forced Werner out and handed Trosset the win on a plate. The second race was a much calmer affair as Valentín Aguirre led from lights to flag with comfortable dominance. Later that same year, San Nicolás hosted a third visit featuring a dream front-row battle of titans: Werner versus Canapino. The Ford driver held his nerve through heavy pressure and multiple restarts to claim his maiden win at the Buenos Aires circuit, setting up his charge to a first TC title.
Werner returned in 2021 full of confidence to win from pole to flag after his front-row rival Juan Pablo Gianini spun off at turn 1. Yet later that same year, another visit to the circuit brought a twist when Julián Santero wrestled the lead away from Werner's pole-sitting Ford. Santero withstood relentless pressure from the driver from Paraná to take a stunning win in his Ford. The 2022 edition offered up more championship-altering theater when Werner crossed the line first in a frenetic duel with Manu Urcera, only to be slapped with a post-race penalty for an illegal overtake that dropped him behind Urcera's Torino—a pivotal moment that ultimately tilted the championship in Urcera's favor.
By 2023, the race was wide open as Germán Todino and Facundo Ardusso both lost the lead on the opening lap to Santero. Everything flipped on lap 14 when a pace car bunched the pack, allowing Todino to make a brave outside move on Santero and seize a Dodge victory. The 2024 weekend introduced the brand-new Nueva Generación cars to the venue. Werner locked out pole alongside Lautaro de la Iglesia, who managed to snatch the lead at the start. But with the laps winding down, Werner hunted down the leader until a desperate defensive mistake and missed braking point by de la Iglesia handed the win straight back to the Ford icon.
Most recently in 2025, the track served up a grueling duel between Matías Rossi and Canapino on a tricky wet morning track surface. The pair broke away from the field to fight alone, with Rossi defending heroically until lap 23—just two from the end—when an unstoppable Canapino finally broke through to secure his third consecutive win of a run that culminated in his fifth TC championship at the end of the year. Now, with Mariano Werner standing as the most successful driver at the venue with three wins across 11 starts, the stage is set for another unforgettable chapter on October 3 and 4.
