Here’s the thing, injuries are the ugliest part of this sport, and Fermin Aldeguer has copped a brutal dose of bad luck. Following a crash on Sunday in Indonesia, the #54 flew straight back to Spain for hand surgery, leaving him watching from the sidelines for the upcoming Australian GP. But thankfully, the recovery machine is already in motion with eyes firmly fixed on returning at the Malaysian GP at Sepang.
“I had bad luck this year, now with my hand,” Aldeguer told the WorldSBK team at Jerez, talking about getting back on track. “It’s less than one week after the injury so we have to stay calm and see if I can be back in Malaysia. It’s our first goal. We will see.”
Stepping into the breach for the Red Bull Australian GP is none other than Iker Lecuona. That's right, the SBK Ducati rider is pulling on the gear to sub for Aldeguer this weekend.
It is actually the third time this season that Lecuona has answered the call for the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP team. He previously jumped in for Alex Marquez at Balaton and also filled in for Aldeguer at Silverstone. Now, he's back on duty in Australia while the Spaniard focuses entirely on healing up for Sepang.
