As Motorsport.com Italia reports, the 2026 MotoGP season is hurtling toward its decisive final stretch with an intense three-way title fight involving Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi. Out in Indonesia ahead of the grand prix at Mandalika, Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola laid out the monumental scale of the task ahead for the House of Noale. For Rivola, this is uncharted territory, marking his first time fighting for a prize this massive in his current role.
Taking on the powerhouse combination of Ducati and Marc Marquez is no small feat. Rivola didn't mince words, calling it quite simply the toughest challenge imaginable. He noted that they are facing arguably the best pairing seen in recent years, making their presence right there at the sharp end of the championship a validation of the hard work done back in Noale.
Right now, Jorge Martin leads the riders' standings by a razor-thin margin over Marc Marquez, with Marco Bezzecchi sitting further back. Rivola made it clear that team orders are off the table for now. Both riders in black are completely free to race each other as long as the mathematics keep their title hopes alive. Only if one of them falls out of contention will they be expected to help their teammate out. Rivola confessed they have made plenty of errors this season, straying from the original plan, but emphasized that it is all part of the racing.

Looking past the title drama, the paddock is also bracing for a seismic technical shift in 2027 with the transition from 1000 to 850cc machines. While the current bikes are posting staggering top speeds—with Marco and Jorge hitting 368.6 km/h—the new formula aims to dial back that incredible velocity by shedding roughly 50 horsepower. Even so, initial tests show the 2027 machinery is surprisingly rapid on a single lap.
Rivola noted that while the new bikes might be slightly easier to handle, saving the riders a bit of energy, tire behavior remains a major unknown factor. Yet, with the final rounds of 2026 looming large, all eyes remain firmly fixed on the present battle. Whether Aprilia can maintain its charge against the red machines until the very end remains to be seen, but Rivola is simply relishing the fight.
