Now, this is a massive shake-up. As Motorsport.com Italia reports, the World Motor Sport Council has officially approved the 2027 WRC calendar, and it is an absolute monster of a schedule featuring 15 events alongside the introduction of the new WRC27 technical regulations.
First off, let us talk about Italy. After years of service, the rally leaves Sardinia behind to set up a brand new stage in the capital city. Rome will host the event from July 8 to July 11, sitting right in the second weekend of the month.
Then comes a piece of history. The United States is finally back on the calendar from August 26 to August 29, ending a 39-year absence since the last edition ran in 1988. It is a massive play for global expansion, offering a crucial platform for manufacturer partners like Ford, which is set to return officially in 2028 and debut its brand new car the following year.
Britain gets a glorious homecoming too. The Rally of Scotland will take place from September 30 to October 3, based in Aberdeen. Developed alongside Motorsport UK and backed by the Scottish Government and local authorities, it brings the championship back to those legendary forest roads and one of the most passionate fanbases in the sport.
Naturally, the season kicks off with the timeless Rallye Monte-Carlo from January 21 to 24, followed quickly in February by the snow of Rally Sweden and the brutal Safari Rally. Croatia, the Canary Islands, and Japan deliver a brutal triple-header of tarmac battles before the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece opens up the summer gravel phase in Europe. Estonia and Finlandia then back up their status as two of the fastest and most spectacular rounds on the calendar, keeping innovations like Estonia's compact format and Finland's fan-focused Super Sunday alive.
A South American double-header featuring Paraguay and Chile keeps the momentum rolling before Rally Saudi Arabia brings the curtain down on the season from November 25 to 28.
WRC Promoter CEO Eric Boullier noted: "The 2027 represents the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for the World Rally Championship and this calendar reflects our ambition to build a stronger, more accessible and truly global championship."
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: "The 2027 FIA World Rally Championship calendar reflects the strong momentum characterizing the WRC, with the new events in the United Kingdom and Italy strengthening the championship in countries with great rallying tradition, while the United States offers us an exciting opportunity to grow in a country where interest in rallying continues to increase."
