Here is the thing about Martinsville: it tests tempers until machines and men simply snap. According to Motorsport.com, NASCAR has now brought down the hammer with severe penalties for Carson Hocevar and Josh Berry following a chaotic Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
Let us start with the Spire Motorsports driver whose afternoon quickly escalated from aggressive driving into a total disciplinary disaster. Hocevar has been hit with a $100,000 fine and a 25-point deduction for repeatedly brake-checking Austin Cindric down the straightaways over multiple laps. That madness went on even while spotter Tyler Green begged him on the radio to stop, with the driver outright refusing to do so. And if that penalty wasn't heavy enough, Spire Motorsports had already suspended him earlier on Tuesday, meaning he will miss the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. To make matters worse, Hocevar had already held numerous meetings with NASCAR officials this year over a back-and-forth spat with Zane Smith, essentially placing the young racer under probation.
Meanwhile, Josh Berry faced his own punishment for a similar piece of dangerous driving on Ryan Blaney. Berry executed a brake check in the corner that heavily damaged the Team Penske No. 12 machine, earning a $50,000 fine and a 25-point deduction for the pilot of the Wood Brothers No. 21.

The penalty report also swept up the RFK Racing Ford garage. Crew members James Price and Samuel Wright from the No. 60 car have been suspended after a wheel disconnected from Ryan Preece's car mid-race. Those crew members are facing a brutal forced absence, sitting out not only the 2026 Homestead finale but also the pre-season Clash at Daytona in 2027.
