Bad weather completely derailed Sunday's schedule at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia 2026, delaying proceedings by several hours before forcing a total cancellation of the day's on-track activities, as Speedcafe reports. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation confirmed the decision in a statement, assuring ticket holders that full refunds are on the way.
“Poor visibility prevented the medical helicopter from operating safely today, resulting in the cancellation of Sunday’s on-track activities at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia 2026,” the Australian Grand Prix Corporation explained. Organisers heavily emphasized that safety is the absolute priority, noting that racing simply cannot happen if the medical helicopter is grounded.

The cancellation is a bitter pill to swallow for an expected record-breaking Sunday crowd. Saturday's attendance had already established a new record with 45,858 fans, and over 90,000 people were projected to turn up on Sunday.
“We know this is an incredibly disappointing outcome for fans, teams and everyone who has contributed to the event,” the Australian Grand Prix Corporation said. Organisers are currently coordinating with ticketing partners to process full refunds for Sunday ticketholders, alongside partial refunds for anyone holding multi-day passes.
This abrupt end carries an extra layer of finality for the venue. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation will lose MotoGP in 2027, with the world championship shifting to Adelaide under the stewardship of the South Australian Motor Sport Board.
