Here is some major news from Maranello: Ferrari have announced that Alba Larsen is officially locked in to return for the 2027 F1 ACADEMY season, making history as the very first driver to contest a third campaign in the all-female championship. That is quite the vote of confidence for the young Dane, who will continue her journey as part of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy.
This unprecedented third season has been made possible thanks to a rule change introduced last year. The provision is available exclusively to drivers whose performances demonstrate strong potential for continued growth, and Larsen has certainly shown she fits that bill. Originally signed by the SFDA midway through her debut 2025 season where she racked up 10 top-10 finishes in the Tommy Hilfiger car, she has only kicked on further since switching to the Ferrari car this year, recently grabbing her first podium in the series with back-to-back P2 finishes in Zandvoort.
After two years in F1 ACADEMY, I’ve seen first-hand how much this series has grown and how important it’s become,
The 17-year-old currently sits fourth in the drivers’ standings with two rounds remaining in Austin and Las Vegas. If that wasn't enough, she also added a maiden win in British F4 to her resume earlier this season.
Reflecting on the announcement, Larsen shared her thoughts on staying with the grid: "After two years in F1 ACADEMY, I’ve seen first-hand how much this series has grown and how important it’s become," she said.
"Susie [Wolff, F1 ACADEMY Managing Director] and the team keep pushing it forward, the fans bring so much energy, and I’ve had an incredible team around me. I’ve grown a lot here too. I’m really proud to be part of it and can’t wait to be back on the grid with Scuderia Ferrari HP in 2027."
