Here is the thing, Formula 2 standings leader Rafael Camara is about to jump straight into the deep end earlier than anyone expected. The Ferrari junior will make his Formula 1 debut with TGR Haas F1 Team at the upcoming Sao Paulo Grand Prix, arriving as a direct replacement as the team confirms Esteban Ocon will not return to a race seat for the rest of the season.
Now, Ocon had already announced he would be departing Haas at the end of the year. But the split came sooner when he was replaced by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa over the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend. Hirakawa managed to finish P10 to score a point in his first outing for the squad, yet pre-existing commitments in the World Endurance Championship for this upcoming weekend meant he was unavailable.
That open door cleared the path for Camara. The Brazilian is already signed to Haas for 2027, but he now gets his maiden grand prix appearance at his home event. He brings plenty of pedigree to the garage, having secured titles in the Formula Regional European Championship and Formula 3, alongside an impressive run in Haas' 2025 challenger during a Testing of Previous Cars test back in August.
Team Principal Ayao Komatsu laid out the team's position on the lineup change. "We have now notified Esteban Ocon that he will not return to a race seat with TGR Haas F1 Team this season," Komatsu stated. "Such decisions are never made lightly, as was the case in Mexico City – but then, as now, we feel this is firmly in the best interests of the team moving forward."

Komatsu added that the conversations that ultimately unfolded between the team and Esteban remain an internal matter, noting that they will continue to respect the private nature of closed-door situations.
Looking toward the track action in Brazil, Camara will slot in alongside Ollie Bearman at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Having excelled in his TPC outing in August, the team knows Rafa's capabilities and is ready to welcome him into the fold for his debut driving the VF-26.
