Now, this is the kind of shake-up that completely alters the complexion of a title fight. In a surprise development for Turismo Carretera, engine preparer Martín Costanzo has parted ways with the Canning Motorsport squad. Costanzo, who secured the 2025 title alongside Agustín Canapino, will no longer tend to the power plant of the driver from Arrecifes. Instead, the Bonelli family steps in to take over engine maintenance duties for the final two commitments of the campaign.
Speaking directly to ACTC Web, Agustín Canapino offered an honest assessment of this massive mid-season shift. “It is a challenge that we are facing from Río Cuarto," Canapino commented. “Every change renews hopes and when they are made it is to try to be better."
To bridge the gap and prepare for the road ahead, Canapino is scheduled to travel on Friday to the workshop of the Bonelli brothers, where Próspero and Nicolás handle their engine operations. “Although I know the guys, I will visit their workshop to chat, analyze, and accompany them in this moment of change," he added regarding the upcoming visit to Concepción.
With only two finals remaining until the championship curtain falls, the mission is absolute focus on chasing another Turismo Carretera crown. Yet, Canapino remains wonderfully pragmatic when weighing his current machine against the championship standings. “Personally, I divide the definition into two," Canapino explained. “On the one hand, I see myself with few chances from the point of view of performance, but on the other, good because of the points we have. Río Cuarto will be key for everyone. Whoever drops out there loses. It will be a finish until the last lap of the last date."
It is a high-stakes gamble with the season on the line, and thankfully, we do not have to wait long to see if the new alliance pays off. Canning Motorsport has a mountain to climb, but in a championship this tight, sometimes you have to roll the dice.
